Super Hero Similarities

In watching a special on the History Channel on the psychology of Batman, it seems that most superhero stories have many similarities. For instance, here’s some similarities of Batman and Superman (through the Smallville tv series):
- Both heroes lose their father figures
- Both heroes enemies come from local mental hospitals
- Both heroes mothers are named Martha
Is there an original superhero story or do they all share some of these similarities?
